NTTDoCoMo simple video phone service for the elderly

With Japan’s aging population, NTT DoCoMo has recently launched
a nifty service aimed at nursing homes and senior citizens. The video phone service
can help to remotely watch the sick, eldely or handicapped people.
The very simple 3G FOMA mobile service features a 2.7kg device that contains
large 7? WVGA touch TFT liquid crystal 256K color screen (for easy reading and
dialing) and 1.3M pixel wide angle lens CMOS camera for video calls.
What is really handy is the auto video mode answering feature and the one button
remote control to start a video call to a predefined phone number in emergency
situations. The first units were being sold in March via senior citizen associations
in Nigata prefecture.
